Many renters find it difficult to find an apartment simply because of the restrictions or complete disapproval on having a pet in the apartment. To make the process a bit easier, here are four tips to help you find an apartment your pet can call home too:

1. Be Open to the Pet Deposit: Most apartment complexes are going to require a pet deposit in order for you to live there with your pet. It's important that you are open to paying this deposit and that you save for it since most pet deposits can be pretty high. When you are prepared for this, you are more likely to find an apartment for you and your pet that you will be ready to move into quickly. 
2. Only Go to Pet-Friendly Apartments: When searching for apartments, it's important that you are only visiting those that are pet friendly. This way, you aren't viewing apartments in person only to discover that they will not allow you to have your pet in the apartment with you. If you aren't sure whether or not they allow pets, it's best to call and provide a thorough description of your pet before you make an appointment to tour the complex and apartment in person. 
3. Get References: If you have rented before with your pet, you may want to ask the property manager to write a reference letter about your pet. If you moved out, for example, and received your full pet deposit back because there was no damage, then you might want a letter signed by the property manager that states this is true. In some cases, this can save you on the cost of the pet deposit. 
4. Write a Resume: To show you are a responsible pet owner, you should also consider writing up a resume for your pet. This should state things such as the shots they have received, the good behavior they exhibit, and talk about any pet training they have been to if applicable. The resume should also include their weight and breed, which usually makes a difference when being considered by an apartment complex. It's possible the apartment manager will be so impressed by this, that they may lower the pet deposit, as well. 

When you consider these four tips as you're looking at the apartments for rent, you are much more likely to find the perfect place for you both to call home.
